In Australia, only 29% of women are in the STEM workforce. The numbers are even worse for women of colour or culturally and linguistically diverse women in STEM, with over four times higher unemployment rates. Employers have cited insufficient applications from women while the women have complained about bias in recruitment, including name, gender, accent, age, country of origin, discrimination etc. DEIR is set to eliminate all of the mentioned biases and provide the opportunity for ALL women in STEM to have equal opportunities in gaining employment in an equitable space.
